Brandon De Waele is the Senior Policy Advisor of Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice. Brandon De Waele was previously in charge of the digital investigations and analytical team within the Antwerp Police Department, the largest police force in the country. It was under his wings that civilians were recruited and trained to become intelligence analysts and to support intelligence officers in gathering intelligence for police and intelligence operations. His area of expertise is terrorism, radicalization and extremism. His interest in terrorism began in 2005 when he was the victim of a terrorist attack in a Turkish city.
Brandon De Waele and the Antwerp Police Department has a long-standing working relationship with the New York Police Department. During a business trip in 2018 with the Antwerp Police Commissioner in New York, he had a meeting with NYPD SHIELD. A few months later he launched Antwerp Shield as the first SHIELD program outside the United States.
He supported the development of the Global Shield Network together with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and the New York Police Department. Since 2018, Brandon De Waele has been speaking about the SHIELD program on a regular basis at conferences around the globe. He was also one of the speakers at the first Global Shield Conference in Virginia in 2018 hosted by the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. He is a believer that strong partnerships create safer communities.
Brandon De Waele is an active Vice President of the Global SHIELD Network and the Global SHIELD Foundation. He has been for years a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the International Police Association.
