A vanguard in this regard, NYPD Shield as the founding entity to this global effort, set in place a template process to assist other agencies with the creation of their own Shield programs. This model began a very popular methodology to effectively share open-source intelligence, information, and resources with both law enforcement and private sector partners around the world. What began as a one agency local program, is now a shared initiative with law enforcement and private sector partners around the world.

Welcome to the Global SHIELD Network (GSN) webpage!
The Global SHIELD Network is a remarkable international collaboration between law enforcement agencies from across the globe, as well as other public and private sector groups. Our mission is to enhance public safety and security by proactively sharing vetted open-source information and resources. Through the tireless efforts of our dedicated members and partners, we have created a robust platform that promotes community safety and combats crime and terrorism globally.
The origins of SHIELD trace back to the aftermath of the tragic events of 9/11. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) pioneered the SHIELD concept, which involved building partnerships with the private sector to bolster security efforts. In 2017, SHIELD expanded to a national initiative in the United States, and in 2018, we proudly welcomed our first international partners in Belgium, marking the beginning of our global journey.
Today, the GSN stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between law enforcement agencies, the private sector, and communities. Together, we have fostered a culture of information sharing and resource exchange that has resulted in pioneering approaches to public safety. Our commitment to exceptional service and the proactive mitigation of crime and terror is unwavering.
As a result of this dedication, our membership has expanded to include partnerships around the world. Our conferences have evolved into a crucial platform for networking and innovation. The sharing of SHIELD messaging and resources continues to strengthen, reinforcing our collective commitment to making communities safer and more secure worldwide.
