The Global Shield Network (GSN) consists of Law Enforcement/Intelligence Agencies from around the world that share information and intelligence and encourage collaboration with private sector partners. The GSN exponentially increases the breadth and scope of intelligence and information sharing with the primary goal of preventing crime and terrorism abroad.

A vanguard in this regard, NYPD Shield as the founding entity to this global effort, set in place a template process to assist other agencies with the creation of their own Shield programs. This model began a very popular methodology to effectively share open-source intelligence, information, and resources with both law enforcement and private sector partners around the world. What began as a one agency local program, is now a shared initiative with law enforcement and private sector partners around the world.

If your Law Enforcement Agency is interested in starting a Shield program and joining the Global Shield Network, please contact us at recruitingteam@globalshieldnetwork.com

As a GSN member you will have access to:

  • Obtain accurate and timely information from both law enforcement GSN partners and private sector members
  • Collaboration opportunities with various police departments in a timely fashion across the world
  • Access and leverage the local private sector expertise in areas of interest and support community service best practices
  • Access routine GSN intelligence briefings
  • Opportunities to attend local, state and global SHIELD conferences
  • Create a force multiplier within the private sector to prevent crime and potential terrorist incidents

OUR PRESIDENT

Letter from GSN President Austin White

Welcome to the Global SHIELD Network (GSN) webpage!

The Global SHIELD Network is a remarkable international collaboration between law enforcement agencies from across the globe, as well as other public and private sector groups. Our mission is to enhance public safety and security by proactively sharing vetted open-source information and resources. Through the tireless efforts of our dedicated members and partners, we have created a robust platform that promotes community safety and combats crime and terrorism globally.

The origins of SHIELD trace back to the aftermath of the tragic events of 9/11. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) pioneered the SHIELD concept, which involved building partnerships with the private sector to bolster security efforts. In 2017, SHIELD expanded to a national initiative in the United States, and in 2018, we proudly welcomed our first international partners in Belgium, marking the beginning of our global journey.

Today, the GSN stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between law enforcement agencies, the private sector, and communities. Together, we have fostered a culture of information sharing and resource exchange that has resulted in pioneering approaches to public safety. Our commitment to exceptional service and the proactive mitigation of crime and terror is unwavering.

As a result of this dedication, our membership has expanded to include partnerships around the world. Our conferences have evolved into a crucial platform for networking and innovation. The sharing of SHIELD messaging and resources continues to strengthen, reinforcing our collective commitment to making communities safer and more secure worldwide.

At the heart of our philosophy is the belief that it takes an entire community working together to address crime and maintain the safety of our neighborhoods. Our strategy, “Strong Partnerships Create Safe Communities,” underscores our mission to serve as a forward initiative in crime and terror mitigation. Prevention is our goal, and we remain steadfast in pursuing this objective.

We invite you to explore our website further to learn more about the Global SHIELD Network, our mission, vision, and how to connect with us. Together, we will continue to make a positive impact on the safety and security of communities around the world.

I appreciate your interest in the Global SHIELD Network. We look forward to collaborating with you to build safer and more secure communities for all.

Most Respectfully,
Austin White
President, Global Shield Network
Special Agent in Charge, Virginia State Police

“As society and technology advance, so must our approach to public safety. The level of partnership that is supported through SHIELD changes the landscape of public safety. Law enforcement agencies and local businesses can collaboratively track and prevent criminal activity in our communities. These types of collaborations are the future of policing.”

"We are tremendously proud of our DPD Shield program, which since 2019 has trained more than 4,000 people across Metro Detroit on how to respond to the worst case scenario of an attack, at their school, church or local business. We know this training works, and having community members trained through SHIELD can save lives and assist law enforcement in their responses"

The SHIELD initiative has been very well received by our community. SHIELD is considered to be the premier law enforcement and community partnership model designed to engage our community in crime prevention and counterterrorism initiatives. Its success can be found in the sharing of information that has caught the attention of our communities.
